The only notable difference is the division of the lobes in human lungs. The left lung of a rat is composed of 1 lobe, while the right lung has 4 lobes. The right lung of a human contains 3 lobes and the left lung is composed of 2 lobes. Other than that (and some structural differences along with size) the human and rat respiratory systems work in the same way. (Rat Health Guide, 2012). When smoking, lung cells are exposed to these harmful substances and it can cause the uncontrollable division of cells (cancer). (eHow Health) There are two main types of lung cancers. These types are known as small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. (Cornell University, 2013) Cancer cells of each type are treated differently, as they grow and spread in different ways. Small cell lung cancer is also known as oat cell carcinoma and accounts for about 15% of lung cancers. Oat cell carcinoma usually begins in the bronchi, but spreads quickly and early to the brain. Small cell lung cancer responds to chemotherapy at first, but it becomes more and more defiant to treatment as the disease goes on. It is separated into two groups, extensive stage and limited stage. People are usually already at the extensive stage of the disease when they are first diagnosed. Most cases are found in men (probably because of a hormone reaction) and are due to smoking. All the students who drop out of high school and graduate college are different by the determination and work ethic, the lifestyles and the potential earnings they might get. The determination and work ethic can make a total difference in getting into college or not graduating high school. High school drop outs don’t have good determination or work ethic. They don’t want to go to school, so they don’t and stay home. They don’t want to do their work, so they don’t do it. They think they don’t have to do any work and get by in life, but in reality that’s not how life works. College graduates either love doing school work or they hate it, and do it anyways. Their work ethics are great, because they want to do great work, so they get amazing grades. They just get it done, so they don’t have to worry about it when they want to go out and have a fun time with their friends. High school drop outs and college graduates are only a product of the way they grew up; the lifestyle they were raised in. The lifestyle of a high school dropout and a college graduate can be totally different, but could also be the same. With a high school dropout, the world they grew up in could be a low income family and they don’t have much money; barely enough to get by. With not much money the student who drops out could want to leave school and work. But on the other hand, they could be getting by, and never want to go to school. A college graduate could have two different lifestyle extremes. They could have loads of money and their parents pay for everything they own or they have just enough to get by. The college graduates who are just getting by want a higher education, so they go to college anyways with all the financial help they can get. According to the National Center for Children in Poverty 40% of all American kids are living in a low income family, but I think those children should still go to school and figure out what kind of person they really, truly are. Even though some people go to school and don’t receive good grades should go anyways to figure out who they really are. To figure out what kind of friends they hang out with and why they hang out with them. They also find out who their true friends are. Also, by the type of friends they have is how they are reflected to the world. High school drop outs tend not to have the type of friends that push them to be better people, but only what they are today. For college graduates, they typically would have friends and other people pushing them and wanting them to go far in life. The motivations of the people they have in their lives are what make college graduates and high school dropouts different. All students who drop out of high school or graduate from college are different by their determination and work ethics, their lifestyles and their potential earnings. There should be more people wanting to graduate from high school and continue to graduate from college. Also students should want to learn and continue learning. Finally, lifestyles may be different and may effect who goes to college, but shouldn’t hold people back from learning, or achieving a higher education. In Duffys poem, she uses an onion as a symbol of her love. They both reject the traditional aspects of love, but they also show great tenderness and feeling. Valentine is a modern poem, whereas The Sunne Rising is a pre 1900 poem. They mutually challenge the traditional love poetry, Not a red rose or a satin heart. Valentine is written in a series of disjointed lines, while The Sunne Rising is written in separate verses. They are both written in first person. In Valentine, Duffy rejects all the traditional aspects of love. She uses strange imagery to try and put her views forward. The poet does not use a rhyming scheme. The Sunne Rising, however, does encompass a rhyming scheme, Donne uses rhyming couplets. Another way in which the poems contrast each other is the use of language. We can read Valentine, and understand the dialogue without difficulty. The Sunne Rising, however is considerably harder to comprehend due to the pre 1900 dialogue. The poem was written in Shakespearean times. Duffy uses direct speech in her poem, I give you an onion. She use this onion is used as a metaphor for her love. This statement is repeated twice throughout the poem along with the modern valentine images which she opens the poem with, Not a red rose or a satin heart. Donne use the image of light, as does Duffy, It is a moon wrapped in brown paper. It promises light. Donnes poem talks about the sun throughout. This is another way in which the poems are similar, because they both talk about natural light, the sun and the moon. Valentine and The Sunne Rising also associate with each other since they both talk about certain aspects of being blind. Duffy believes that a lover can be compared with an onion. The onion brings tears to your eyes, and so does a lover. It will blind you with tears Like a lover. John Donne, however, talks about being blind by an entirely different approach. He comments that he could effortlessly close his eyes from the sun, but if he was to do this he would loose sight of his lover, I could eclipse and cloud them with a winke, But that I would not loose her sight so long If her eyes had not blinded thine. He claims that he has been blinded by the absolute beauty of his lover. He is enthralled by her and by no means wants to loose sight of this magnificence. In Valentine, Duffy discusses the matter of time in her relationship. She links the taste of onion on your lips with a kiss from her lover, Its fierce kiss will stay on your lips, Possessive and faithful As we are, For as long as we are. In this section of the poem, she also involves her partner because she uses the word we. Her interpretation is that the taste stays on your lips like a kiss. Donne, however, talks about time in a diverse method. He comments that time is not an issue in his relationship. This quote possibly has another meaning which is the different layers of relationships. He informs the sun to only shine where he and his lover are because they simply are the world. Just by shining on them, the whole world will have sunlight. He trusts that everything is there with him because he has his partner present. The poems contrast each other because both poets have diverse views on relationships. Duffy understands that a relationship can easily be unsuccessful. Her view is that marriage is lethal; it constricts you and ties you down, Lethal. Donne however is so infatuated with his lover that he cannot distinguish any faulty aspects of his relationship. He thinks that they are both equally contented and that his bond with his partner will never break down, Sheis all States, and all Princes, I, Nothing else is. He believes that she is everything, all the states, all the world and that he is equivalent to all the Princes in the world. Personally, I am fond of both poems. My preferred poem yet would be Valentine. This was because I found the language easy to comprehend and I also found it straightforward to relate to. I enjoyed reading her uses of strange imagery, I think these made it more appealing. The Sunne Rising was particularly challenging to understand due to the pre 1900 dialogue. I also found The Sunne Rising to be slightly tedious and dull. I enjoyed studying these poems because of the eccentric imagery and the use of hyperboles. Another reason as to why I enjoyed reading them is because they are unlike the traditional love poetry, they are unique.
